ABOUT

On June 12, 2021, two lives shaped by mental illness collided in tragedy.
Paul James Pfeifer—a father, musician, husband, and deeply compassionate man—was taken from this world too soon. He lived with bipolar disorder and faced it with grace, humor, and resilience. His life was full of love and music, and he believed deeply in showing up for others.

The man who took Paul’s life was also living with severe mental illness, but the systems meant to support and protect him failed. He was released into the community without adequate treatment or oversight—lost in the gap that so many fall through.
This foundation was created in Paul’s name, and in his spirit.
We exist to close the gaps in mental health systems.
We advocate for care that honors people’s humanity—not just their diagnosis.
We create spaces for healing, connection, and collective action.
And we believe no one should be left behind.

You can help close the gap
Every donation helps us amplify this work through policy, advocacy, healing-centered events like A Widower’s Cabaret, and direct storytelling that reminds us all:
We are not alone.
And we are not our illness.
